Do Fat Burners Work? Separating The Facts From The Myths!

In this post I want to talk about fat burners. Walk into any vitamin or supplement store and you'll find whole sections dedicated to fat burners and weight loss products. It's easy to get sucked into the idea of an easy fix for weight loss or fat loss through supplementation, but like always there are some truths and some myths concerning supplements that people need to be aware about before spending their hard earned cash. So in this post I want to discuss the question do fat burners work? I

I had a guy in the gym come up to me the other day and ask me if our muscles plateau as we age. It's a great question and something that a lot of people don't think about often. He was a kid (around 20 years old), and wondered if I was following a workout routine to build muscle or just following a routine to stay lean considering I am around 40 years old. He also wondered if his routine should differ from mine considering our age difference. Lets talk about what we discussed in this

Bulking And Cutting - Do We Need To Do This To Look Our Best

When we go to the gym we enter a different world. I remember when I first heard the term bulking and cutting and thought what a great idea. You pack on the muscle in the off season when your wearing a shirt and coat - so no one can see the excess fat that you've gained, then you drop body fat quickly when spring and summer approaches to show off all that muscle you've gained. In theory it was a great idea....I mean this is what body builders did when they entered a competition right, so

The Best Lower Ab Workout Ever!

Achieving lower abdominal definition isn't easy. It requires a lot of focus, discipline and sacrifice for these muscles to become highly visible and defined. When I look around the gym what I mainly see is guys with slight definition of their upper and middle abs. But what I hardly ever see is someone who has defined and deep lower abs and obliques. It's a shame because women have told me for years that the lower abs, the obliques, and the "V"that forms where the hips and lower abs meet,

The Afterburn Effect - Using Afterburn Training to Burn Fat!

A secret way the body burns calories is with Exercise Post-Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), or what most of us refer to as the afterburn effect. When we employ afterburn training, we throw the body into a form of chaos. Once the workout is over, our bodies expend calories to get the body back into its pre-exercise state. Achieving this state, in my opinion, is the single most important factor when it comes to getting lean.

I've been seeing the term "gluten free diet plan" all over the internet lately and thought a brief overview was needed to determine if we need to take this seriously. Lets take a look at what could be going on.

I was watching television the other day and saw a new show on ESPN about the life of Herschel Walker. Herschel played for the University of Georgia from 1980-1982 and was a force to be reckoned with - I still think he was the best college football player of all-time. I can still remember sitting in my Grandmothers living room as a ten year old watching him run past and over everyone that got in his way. He eventually went on to have a succesfull professional football career, and now at the age

What Is The Best Muscle Building Workout?

I know the name of my site is titled the lean look but that doesn't mean gaining muscle isn't a necessary part of the equation. The problem lies in the fact that too many people use muscle building routines year round (men's fitness, muscle and fitness, etc.). When this happens you end up putting on to much muscle year after year creating a big, bulky, soft, look, that just looks unnatural. Why I Like Being Lean Over Being Big!

With summer upon us, I wanted to write a post about why I like being lean over being big and muscular. I spent years in the gym trying to get bigger and bigger and it left me looking and feeling lousy year after year. I can't believe I never realized that my body just didn't look right. I guess it's a mental thing when we get into the gym. We just want to be bigger and stronger than the other guy. It's a combination of evolution and hormones I guess. But once we make that mental switch in our

Does Muscle Burn Fat? The Mistake I See In Gym's All The Time

A few years ago I moved into a new neighborhood. I decided that the long drive to my previous gym wasn't worth it (15 miles) and that I would start looking for a gym in my area. When I met my personal trainer the first question I asked him was, does muscle burn fat? This is one of the most common questions

Yoga Benefits For Women! Is it Worth Your Time And Effort?

I recently tried a few yoga courses at the local gym after years of putting it off. I thought it was ok, but I just don't believe that my time spent there was as beneficial as the time I could be spending hitting the weights and treadmill. However, this is coming from a man's perspective - I think men should be more muscular and leaner than a woman. I believe a woman wants a more slim, fit, physique that incorporates an overall wellness approach to fitness. So what are some of the yoga benefits

Finding a Fasting Plan that Works for You!

Eating healthy all-day everyday is possible but can be overwhelming. I've tried many diets that work if you follow them exactly as layed out. The "Quick Workout" - Is it Getting you the Results you're After?

I am always looking to tweak my routine and find out what works and what doesn't. And over the past few years the brief workout trend has taken over in many of the mainstream fitness centers. Now, if it's summer and you're active, a couple of 30 minute workouts per week could suffice. But in my opinion, I think people need to step up their game a little if they want to
